University is probably one of the first times that you’ll have to cook and shop for yourself on a full time basis. Having to juggle all of your own cooking, cleaning, washing up and food shopping, as well as studying and balancing a social life can be pretty daunting. I looked into how much a slow cooker cost, and found one on Gumtree for just £5. I decided it was worth the investment risk, and have never looked back – it’s essentially the perfect piece of equipment for cooking cheap and easy meals whilst at University.

I am a 21 year old textile designer and artist, about to begin the second year of my textiles course in the Cardiff School of Art & Design. I made my first textiles piece as a goodbye gift to my Mum and took it to a gallery to be framed. They asked me to make more work for their gallery and ever since then my art career has spiralled.

The alarm goes off. It’s 8am on a Monday morning and I have a full day ahead of me. I like to do everything at a leisurely pace when I get up in the mornings (I am definitely not a morning person), so I get up slightly earlier than most and potter about making a packed lunch for the day and putting on make up. When I leave my flat at Liberty Court, I walk down the road to university, timing it so I can get a coffee with the other girls on the Textiles course before our lectures begin.
