A level Results day 2019 did not go to plan for me, however, so much success came out of the process of clearing that led me to join Cardiff Met and study Biomedical Science.

Last summer I was due to study Biomedical Science at Cardiff University but on results day I was three grades under my offer, and I didn’t get my place. I decided to phone Cardiff Met through the clearing proces  as I had heard about their sporting success through watching Super BUCS games on you-tube, as well as having seen posters for the Met when driving in Cardiff, so I asked what courses they offered.

It turned out Cardiff Met offered the Biomedical Science course I was after and not only that, it had two accreditations that weren’t present on the other course I had originally been going for. I accepted a place immediately and the next day I travelled to Cardiff Met to meet my Programme Directors Sally Hicks and Cathy Withycombe, both gave me a really warm welcome and everything just clicked into place. They put me in contact with other students who both studied Biomedical Science and played rugby. The last important factor  for me to consider  was how I was going to continue with my passion for rugby whilst balancing my studies. I was put in to contact with the Archers (Cardiff Met’s rugby team) and two days later I joined Archers preseason and I haven’t looked back since. I am now proud of being an Academic Archer! In addition to this Cardiff Met has a great reputation for Sport and encourage students to participate in activities on a Wednesday by reducing teaching hours to allow us to take part in sport activities/ BUCs.

I have enjoyed the course greatly and also loved the rugby aspect of University life. I believe it is the combination of sport and study that has helped me achieve a 1st profile in my first year which I hope to carry through the entirety of my time at Cardiff Met.

The overall experience of clearing for me was as good as it could get. I believe this was down to the welcome and support I received from the Cardiff Met community throughout the whole process. During the year I have enjoyed studying my course with many lab sessions where you get to know people on your course. I have enjoyed the course greatly and also loved the rugby aspect of University life. I believe it is the combination of sport and study that has helped me achieve a 1st profile in my first year which I hope to carry through the entirety of my time at Cardiff Met.

I could not be more complementary about the Met University as it has made my first-year experience as smooth and exciting as it could possibly be!
