Hello, my name is Merlin and in a few months I will graduate from Cardiff Met with an MSc in Data Science.

I finished my undergraduate degree in India in 2017, and subsequently spent almost a year researching courses, the most affordable cities for students, and deciding on the best country to study my Master’s. This is when I discovered Cardiff Met. I had applied other UK universities as well, but compared to other unis, Cardiff Met had been crowned six times as the top university in the UK for international student support. Knowing this, I decided to take the opportunity to study at Cardiff Met without any second thoughts.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying at Cardiff Met

As an international student, I was worried of having to adjust to a different education system, as each country has its own. I feared that coming here would have been like starting from scratch with my education. But Cardiff Met has an excellent support system for international students, and helped me adjust to the British Higher Education system in no time.

Studying at Cardiff Met was really rewarding as I was able to develop all of my abilities to consolidate my data science skillset. Data Science is one of the most in-demand career fields in the world. The course equips you very well to explore opportunities in any data science-related jobs such as data scientist, data analyst and so on. The module leaders are friendly and approachable, and each module can be implemented in the workplace. I found some theoretical modules to be challenging, and other practical ones intriguing. One module in particular required us to obtain data from a website, gain insights into the processed data, and report on results.

I also had the opportunity to be the Course Rep for Data Science. It was great to interact with students of different nationalities and find out about their home countries and their backgrounds. Cardiff Met also organises social trips with students from across the university to help international students make new friends. As a result, I discovered more about the traditional dress, food and culture of other international students.

The city of Cardiff is also such a lovely place. I will never regret the opportunity of studying at Cardiff Met!
