5 reasons to become a student ambassador at Cardiff Met

I’ve been working as a student Ambassador since January and it’s one of the best jobs I’ve ever had! I’d definitely recommend it to anyone – here are just a few reasons why…

1. There’s lots of variety

What does a student ambassador do? It’s not an easy question to answer, as the work is so varied! We can do anything from working at open days to a summer schools. The variety of work on offer means no shift is the same – far more interesting than your usual 9-5. It also shows you are adaptable and have a range of different skills, making you more employable for future work!

2. You get to make a difference

My favourite part of being an Ambassador is working with First Campus. I get to work with teenagers and encourage them to think about going to University or show them student life. I’ve never wanted to teach, but working with younger students in this context is something I find really enjoyable.

3. You get to meet all sorts of people

I love meeting new people!

I’ve met so many members of staff and fellow students I never would have met otherwise. They’re a friendly bunch, and a huge part of why I enjoy working is down to my colleagues.

4. It’s flexible

You can basically work as much or as little as you want – perfect for a student! Some months I’m really busy and barely have time to work, so I don’t apply for many shifts. Other months I have a smaller workload and might work 12 shifts that month! It’s completely up to you.

5. It’s rewarding

And finally, the work is so fulfilling. You’re taking an active role not only within Cardiff Met, but the wider community. If you enjoy working with and helping people, (and you like fun) then this is the job for you!
