My name is Son Tung Bui. I’m originally from Vietnam and I’m currently studying the MA Education (TESOL) course at Cardiff Met.
Prior to my studies in Cardiff, I taught back home in Vietnam. Whilst I enjoyed the role, I knew at some point that I would have to further my studies. Cardiff Met has given me the opportunity to do that.
As a result of what I am learning at Cardiff Met, I now have more confidence in my teaching style, and I am learning to adapt to different styles of teaching practice. Prior to my studies, I saw my teaching style as being very conservative, whereas now I am developing a style that will in future allow me to bring out the best in students of all abilities and learning preferences.
Throughout my studies, I have developed a better understanding of the importance of research, and how it can help me improve my teaching practice. I firmly believe that what I am learning today will qualify me for any teaching role in the world.
The modules I’m studying for today align perfectly with my career goals, which include a move into higher education. What I have learned will equip me with the knowledge, skills and expertise needed to be a successful university tutor or lecturer.
I am really enjoying my experience with Cardiff Met. The university has been extremely supportive and has helped me develop and grow as both a student and a person. Whilst I enjoy my studies, I also really appreciate my surroundings. I really do feel at home in Cardiff. It’s a great city, which has so much to offer. I am particularly fond of Roath Park and Bute Park. When I’m not studying, I like to spend time at either place.
As for my future, and what happens after I graduate, I think I will go back to Vietnam and apply to work as a university lecturer or tutor. I am confident that what I have learned at Cardiff Met, and the various skills I have adopted, will make me more employable.
