Julia Diniz

I started at Cardiff Met in September 2015 on a Foundation year. The decision to pursue the BSc (Hons) International Economics & Finance was a tough one after learning so much in the Foundation year about several other courses in the Cardiff School of Management. However, it was in the Economics programme that I have found my vocation and true passion.

I put myself forward for the role of Student Rep of my year and remained so for the three years of the course. Being a Student Rep brought me closer to students and lecturers and also allowed me to develop and improve numerous skills.

I’ve made friends for life through the Economics Society!

After my first year, I got involved in the Economics Society with two other course mates. We planned field trips and socials which were very successful and so much fun! By the end of my first year I had already made friends for life.

The course was challenging and demanding. However, coming to an end of it now I feel extremely rewarded and accomplished. The programme offers a range of career options, from research to investment banking and all careers in between! The university has a great support system for students who are looking for internships, placements, gap years or part-time jobs.  Staff from the Careers service helped me with mock interviews and assisted me with CV writing. I attended several workshops on CV building, interviewing and skill development. The course brought in various people to discuss our options, may that be further study or entering the job market. We had lots of support to help us make a decision and succeed on it.

The department and School of Management staff have been exceptionally supportive throughout my time at Cardiff Met, listening to student feedback and working hard to improve the course and provide an even better student experience. I felt like Student Reps really had a voice and were being listened to as we watched the department act upon our feedback and suggestions.

I could not have chosen a better University to study my undergraduate degree as I have received so much support and had the best four years of my life! I am starting a postgraduate course with confidence that my degree at Cardiff Met has prepared me for what is to come after graduation.
