Azadeh studying from home

Hello, I’m Azadeh and I am currently studying BA (Hons) Business & Management with Law at Cardiff Met.

When Cardiff Met switched their teaching to remote and online learning, I was initially a little confused about how I was going to complete my studies. I haven’t done any online courses before and I felt pressure from needing to home-school my children while completing my own assignments, and needing to sit online exam.

However, I needn’t have worried so much! The great point of remote learning which I benefited from was ‘anytime studying’ meaning I did not have to attend campus at certain time and Cardiff Met came to my home. The tutors made everything accessible for us; I could easily email them and they responded to me swiftly. In addition, my seminars and discussion sessions related to our assignments via Microsoft Teams and Zoom where my tutors answered my queries – which was really beneficial for me!

Although at the beginning I found the new way of working difficult, I learned how to manage my time between my family and studying from home. I had a lot of work I needed to accomplish so I scheduled a timetable to home-school my boys during the day and work on my assignments during evening and night. I sometimes had to stay up late in order to complete my tasks, but it did not bother me as I set myself targets. I also learned more about utilising MetSearch (Cardiff Met’s online library service) and found this very useful as usually I prefer to borrow books.

My tutors have kept me motivated through online learning

During this lockdown period I have tried to stay positive and optimistic and I have used this period of time as an opportunity to improve my knowledge of my course area. Furthermore, I have enrolled on IT courses, provided by Cardiff Met at no charge, and I am thrilled that by the end of these courses I will have gained official Microsoft certificates.

During this tough time, I have received plenty of support and encouragement from my tutors who were accessible any time I had questions. I have remained motivated by Cardiff Met and all of my tutors – which I am so thankful for!
